07:53 pm - How long has it been since I was on LJ?
I was poking around LJ tonight and realized I'm about 50 icons behind the times. I'm not sure when they increased the number, but now I'm giving you the chance to catch me up. Find me an icon that you think represents me. Or one that you think I'd enjoy.
Comments are screened ... just 'cause I can.

10:32 pm - Today I was a Fairy Godmother
I had the most amazing day playing Fairy Godmother. I volunteered at America's Heros of Freedom's Operation Cinderella/Fella for wounded military and their significant others attending the Commander in Chief Inaugural Ball Tuesday. I had the great honer of dressing the young woman selected to dance with President Elect Obama. There were several occasions when I found tears in my eyes ... especially when my cinderellas teared up themselves when they saw how beautiful they were in their new dresses. It was a very moving experience. I think I'll be doing more work with this organization.
If anyone in VA is interested channel 9 is going to have a piece on the 11pm news.

12:30 pm - HELP NEEDED
I received the following from a friend who needs some help. Please read and help if you can. It is that perfect opportunity to clean out the closet a little. I know I have two or three gowns that would love to find a new home. THANKS!! Deb
I am on the advisory board of America's Heroes of Freedom (AHOF), founded by Susan Brewer, which provides support to the injured military and their families. This Inauguration, AHOF has once again been selected to dress the wounded military as part of Operation Cinderella/Fella for the Commander in Chief's Ball, an official Inaugural Ball following the festivities of January 20, 2009.
In order to make this event successful for our wounded warriors, we need donations of money, ball gowns, tuxedos, dress military uniforms, shoes, ties, and other accessories. AHOF will also provide gift bags to include make-up, jewelry, perfume, and other gift items.
If you have contacts with retail/wholesale who would like to be a part of Operation Cinderella/Fella and can donate to this event by providing ball gowns, shoes and or any of the above items, please let me know by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Personal donations are welcomed as well. We ask that the formal wear be new or like new.
Distribution for the items needed by our wounded combat veterans will be provided on Saturday, January 17, 2009, site to be determined. 2250 wounded warriors have been invited; many who will be counting on our services.
Spa services have been donated by Graham Webb Beauty Academy, in Rosslyn VA, and Bubbles Hair Salons. Other hair salons vendors are welcomed. Other vendors include, Claire's Stores, Crab Tree and Evelyn, Nordstrom's, Owens Manufacture, Lady Hamilton, Men's Warehouse, Victoria Secret, Marshall's, Mac Make-up, Mary Kay, Aveda Cosmetics, Sephora, Ulta and Avon. Lancome is sending perfume samples, and Sean (P. Diddy) Combs is sending cologne for men. Florists in Reston and Arlington will provide nosegay's and boutonnieres, a wig company in Rosslyn and and DC will provide extensions and wigs for women. This is just a list of some of the vendors, and more are needed. If you are a consultant for any of the above company's and can provide product, please let me know. Donations must be in-hand by Friday, January 16, 2009 and are tax deductible.
In these uncertain times we are challenged to do what we can to make a difference. January 19th, Martin Luther King Day, is a national day of service. It will celebrated by thousands of Americas volunteering with projects to bring hope and change to communities in need. Volunteers will be a key to the success of this event. There are many opportunities for individuals, families, and corporations to assist with Operation Cinderella/Fella. Please let me know if you are interesting in contributing your time.
Thank you for helping us to honor our veteran's who allow us to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.

10:14 pm - Wedding stuff - not on the wedding filter
Paging thatliardiego, barbie_toes, i_kissandra and any other friends that are really into music. I'm still trying to find a first dance song for Phil and I. After going through all the songs on my iPod (all 10,000+) and listening to the radio again (which I've not done much since the iPod purchase) for the past couple of weeks I'm lost and asking for suggestions. While I appreciate Unforgettable, When I Fall in Love, It Had to be You and many of the other top requested first dance songs, I'm looking for something different. I'm asking my eclectic group of friends, with very eclectic taste in music, to give me some suggestions. What are some good love songs that thousands of other couples have not used? For instance, I heard I'm Yours by Jason Mraz the other day and thought that would be fun. HELP!!

04:55 pm - Scarby Questions
Now that I've learned that one of my FAVORITE groups, The Corsairs, are retiring, I'm determined to make it to Scarby to catch some of their last shows ... and to get some HUGS. I need some Scarby guidance please. Since I have not been there in YEARS and my memory is failing, could anyone please provide with the following info (or direct someone to this post who can):
Which airport do I want to fly into?
Which hotels do you recommend? While price is a concern, keep in mind I'm a princess and like my hotels to have a star rating higher than Motel 6.
Will anyone I know be there May 24/25/26?
Thank you in advance.

01:02 pm - Dear Live Journal,
I think I may be losing my mind. I remember seeing an article on the domestic tigers. Not BIG cats. These have been breed to be smaller than a tiger, but larger than your average domestic cat. The new designer pets. You get them when they are like a year old and they are trained. If I haven't hallucinated the article, they were rather costly. I think the thing I read was on Daily Candy. Does ANYONE recall anything like this???? Doing a websearch all I come up with are Toygers, which is not what I'm looking for. Does anyone have a link?
Thanks in advance.

09:15 pm - OMG!!
Reading the comments of another journal it hit me I've been here on Live Journal for almost 5 years now. 3,179 entries. 11,642 comments received ... 6,396 posted (on my journal ... who knows how many on the countless other journals I peruse). It seems hard to believe. It feels like only days ago I discovered this corner of the web.
I've learned a lot about people here - some good, some not so good. After being betrayed by some "friends" I hold my cards a bit tighter these days. I do wish LJ would change that terminology (just my two cents).
I've learned a lot about myself as well, and worked through quite a few things through the words on the virtual pages of my journal ... life, love, loss, yada yada yada.
For those have stuck with me, thanks for taking an interest. :)

08:37 am - Louise Shaffer
Last night my beloved Grandmother, Louise Shaffer, passed away. I think an email from my father this morning sums it up best:
She lived a very long and full life. She was a magnificent lady, who was wise beyond her schooling, and smart beyond her intelligence level. She had a chance to travel the world extensively, lived about forty years longer than anyone ever predicted, and had memories she cherished until her death. We should all be so lucky!
Godspeed, Grandma. Say hello to Grandpa for me.
